About Machine Project

Existing to encourage the heroic experiments of the gracefully over-ambitious, Machine Project presents workshops, events, installations and performances on a semi-regular basis. Machine Project aims 1) to provide educational resources to artists working with technology; 2) to educate and collaborate with artists to produce site-specific, non-commercial work; and 3) to promote conversations between artists, scientists, poets, technicians, performers and the communities of Los Angeles as a whole. These three aims are closely related. With our wide array of cultural programming, we demonstrate the creative possibilities of technology to open up interdisciplinary conversations between disparate knowledge communities. With our presentations and lectures, we offer rarified knowledge in a friendly, human manner, and we foster a greater understanding between art and science. And at the most practical level, we offer hands-on training in some of the skills presented in our exhibits and lectures, putting knowledge tools into the hands of our community and giving them the ability to create work of their own. About the Ali Akbar College Store

The AACM Store was founded along with the Ali Akbar College in 1967. At the time its purpose was simply to provide instruments for the students. Over time it has expanded its scope and is now North America’s largest importer of quality instruments from India. We have on hand one of the finest collections of Indian instruments anywhere in the world. Visitors to the San Francisco Bay Area are encouraged to come visit us. All profits from the store go to the Ali Akbar College and help keep tuition costs down. More information available at www.aacm.org/shop.
